Review: Cooper’s Local Laughs Aug 2nd ’09

First: the pub. It used to have another name, but now it’s The Local Taphouse and it offers an extensive range of boutique beers (including a tasting paddle for the dedicated) and a funky menu of snacks and full meals. (There is another The Local Taphouse pub in St Kilda which hosts Melbourne’s longest-running independent comedy room under the name Cooper’s Local Laughs, and this Local Laughs comedy room is a spin-off from that.) The ticket price for the show includes two half-price Coopers beers – happy days.

Review: Fiona O’Loughlin @ Marble Bar

DATE: 28/10/08

SUPPORTED BY: James Rochford, Matt Dyktynski & MC David Smiedt

On its second ever comedy show, the Marble Bar sold out and was standing room only. Given that there’s a nice long bar to lean on, standing room isn’t too bad at all! The night began with a soft jazz musical act to wind the crowd down a bit after their day at work, this week guitarist Roger Black did the mellow honours. Then it was on with the funnies.

Every mum in Australia should be grateful to Fiona O’Loughlin for showing that mothering doesn’t have to be taken oh so seriously. By her own report her style of parenting evokes the escapades of a St-Trinian’s-4th-former, which must startle the neighbours at times…

Comedy@Marble Bar: Fiona O’Loughlin coming 28/10/08

After a great opening last week for the only comedy room in the heart of Sydney city, the second show at the Marble Bar is on next Tuesday night. Coming this Tuesday 28th October looks like another great night of comedy with the fabulous Fiona O’Loughlin headlining. O’Loughlin has been described as the funniest working […]

Review: Comedy @ Marble Bar, 14th October (Grand Opening)

Comedy @ Marble Bar
The Marble Bar (underneath the Hilton Hotel)
488 George Street, Sydney

6:30 pm Tuesdays

$15 (includes one free drink)

For the first time in far too many years, there’s a comedy room in the heart of the city again. And what a room! Sydney institution The Marble Bar, its glamour restored and furnishings updated not too long ago, normally hosts musical entertainment; Lisa Rathbone has persuaded them to vary the menu and offer a night of stand-up comedy every week on Tuesdays, starting at the perfect time to catch people needing their ribs tickled after work.

The opening night line-up was guaranteed to draw a crowd: headlined by UK legend John Moloney, MC’ed by the engaging David Smiedt, and ably supported by veteran mischief-maker Jackie Loeb and popular rising comic Jacques Barrett. A full house turned up in the mood for a good time.

John Moloney week in Sydney

British comic John Moloney is touring Oz, and this week he’s popping up around Sydney. Despite the fact that Moloney’s website is desperately out of date, I have had a few alerts about some appearances: Monday: BB’s Comedy @ Bondi Beach 8:00 pm Tuesday: Comedy @ the Marble Bar 6:30 pm (opening night at a […]
