How much of a Cheeky Monkey is Tim Ferguson?

Book Cover for Tim's bookCheeky enough to write a book dubbed “a practitioner’s guide to the art of comedy writing”, definitely. He’s certainly been around a lot of comedy in his time – well remembered as “the good-looking one” of the Doug Anthony Allstars, Tim has appeared at over twenty international comedy festivals.

He has also written, produced, directed or performed in dozens of TV series in Australia and the UK. He’s even done musical theatre as Frankenfurter (Rocky Horror) and Potiphar (Technicolour Dreamcoat), which has to be good for a few laughs.

Currently one of Australia’s busiest corporate event performers, Tim also lectures in comedy and screenwriting at RMIT University School of Media & Communication, Melbourne and conducts the Cheeky Monkey Comedy Courses worldwide.

So, he probably knows a thing or two. He’s currently touring to promote his book, The Cheeky Monkey: Writing Narrative Comedy, so you can go and listen to what he’s got to say about his theories of comedy. Here’s what the book promises:

Seeded with exercises to aid the developing comedy writer, this book will help you to:
Write jokes
Create funny stories
Build comic characters
Develop a sitcom
Sell your sitcom to producers and TV networks

Many of Tim’s techniques can also be applied to film, stage, stand-up or indeed any form of comedy. You’ll make ’em laugh before you know it.

This flagrant revelation of trade secrets has been greeted with a certain level of industry outrage:
