The festival started on Wednesday night and here’s the list of comedy acts – check them out on the Fringe website for full show details:
The fourth instalment of the “From Zero To Somewhere Slightly Higher Than Zero” Chronicles!
On Wednesday, 23 September, six of Australia’s rising comedy, writing, radio and television talents will be on stage in Sydney performing a new sketch-comedy show, made specially for radio. Come and be part of the studio audience.
I had no idea that studying comedy as a course at high school was even possible to count as part of the approved curriculum, but William Brennan of Warburton, VIC, is doing it next Friday night. His Livewire Comedy Night will feature such comics as Dave O’Neil (as heard on Vega and Nova), Michael Chamberlain (star Channel Ten’s Skit House), Comedy Festival favourites Karl Chandler and Tommy Little, and finally Michael Connell and William Brennan himself (two of the Yarra Valley’s own home grown comics).
There is a catch, but it’s a good one – I’ve spoken to the organisers and they’re upfront people, who have Reasons for being mysterious until they’ve finalised the course participants.
“As soon as I finish a set I immediately want to get straight home and start working on my material. Inevitably I end up at the bar and 3 hours later have no recollection of how to spell the word comedy let alone what it was that I wanted to change but still there is a lesson in there somewhere.”
Tickets are selling fast for the new comedy festival on the Sydney event calendar – World’s Funniest Island, held over one weekend in October with a single ticket entry covering all shows – a world first concept for a comedy festival. Choose a single day’s ticket or a double for both days.
As promised last week, this week’s edition is a rundown of my first four shows. Enjoy!
Had a few technical difficulties. For those who love the tech-talk, a supposedly-simple database-migration to a new server went horribly tits-up.
